The Hotel Anders is located in the resort town Stare Jabłonki in Western Masuria, by the Elbląg Canal waterway. The hotel is situated on the coast of the Lake Szeląg Mały, surrounded by majestic forests, on the border of the Tabor Pines Forest Preserve. The picturesque scenery, forest, water and fresh air make it an ideal place for leisure.
Anders Hotel took its name from the name of a Prussian aristocrat and industrialist, the former owner of the present palace part of the hotel - Richard Anders, who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Richard Anders made his career in a truly American style - he owned giant forest complexes and many sawmills - he was called "The East Prussian king of wood". At the beginning of the 20th century, he employed over 100 people to work in his sawmill in Stare Jabłonki, and in his villa by Lake Szeląg Mały he set up a summer residence where he received guests. Today, it is the palace part of the Anders Hotel.
Stare Jabłonki are surrounded by Taborskie Forests which have been known for centuries, the undisputed queen of these forests is the Taborska Pine. The specific microclimate of the place makes the pines that grow in Stare Jabłonki adopt unique features - they are tall, have few knots, and their growth rings are tiny. Thanks to these features, during the geographical discoveries they became famous and were said to be the best boatbuilding material in the world - the masts of nearly all European flags were built from the Taborska Pine wood.
Perhaps Christopher Columbus himself had his mast built from the Masurian Pine. In the period of overseas journeys of the 15th and 16th centuries, the value of Taborska Pine can be compared to today's value of crude oil, which is probably why spies and intelligence services were interested in pine trees.
The Masurian Pine was also appreciated by Napoleon himself, who resided at the castle in Ostróda in 1807. Perhaps he had also walked under our pine tree?
At the world exhibition in Paris in 1900, these Pine trees were much appreciated and gained surprisingly big interest of the merchants - they were displayed under the name "Bois de Tabore" (wood from Tabórz) and advertised as the best pine raw material in the world.
After World War II, the wood of Taborska Pine was used to rebuild the National Theater in Warsaw and to build the pier in Sopot.
Today, the Taborska Pine is protected by a nature reserve in nearby Tabórz - it is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the area.
In Stare Jabłonki apples are very important. The name of the village and tradition obliges and ... inspires. For centuries, apple trees have been a characteristic feature of the landscape of Stare Jabłonki.
The incredible aroma of abundantly blossoming apple trees, bees swarming in the sunshine and delicious apples have dominated the landscape of the village. Stare Jabłonki are full of blooming apple trees surrounded by a forest full of monumental Pine trees. For centuries, these trees have been the most valuable treasure of the village. That's why apples and apple trees are an integral, natural part of our existence and our hotel
Stare Jabłonki is not only Pine trees, Lake Szeląg Mały and apple trees. The unique location of the hotel is its greatest asset, which is appreciated by guests in almost every review about the hotel. The area has many interesting places and enables active rest surrounded by nature and silence.
